********original question****************
Quick question,
Is firmware tied to OS eg I am installing 4.0D on a machine that had 4.0E
and a higher revision firmware.
Do i leave on the version that has the higher revision firmware, or put on
the firmware that came with 4.0D?
(Its an AS1200.)

There should be no problem leaving the higher firmware version on and
installing 4.0d.

Firmaware is not tied to the OS. You can ssafely leave on the higher
firmware revision.

Newer firmware is always safe to have with older O/S.

It is always possible (but unlikely) that a newer firmware won't work right
with an older OS release. Not every combination gets tested. But most of
the time, no one would tell you that you MUST downgrade the firmware for a
difference in OS versions as small as what you note. In fact, the older
firmware is probably sitting on the V4.0E delivered firmware CDROM, and it
almost certainly would have been tested with V4.0D and V4.0E. But no one
is required to test the new firmware with older base OS versions, so you
may find an incompatibility.

I have had v5.4 firmware running on DU4.0d with no problems. Firmware
forward a version should not be a problem. I've had Compaq field service
engineers upgrade firmware to v5.2 on 3.2x boxes to fix hardware problems
(most especially tape drives glitches).
