Hi managers,
I have a question. Due to a complete loss of the /users disk, part of
which the NSR files resided, I am having trouble recovering files from the
previous backups. I have been using Networker for some time and it seemed
to work well. Backups reported nothing odd. I have had to reinstall NSR
on my machine and I have alos rebuilt the index via mmrecov, scanner, etc.
I have tried them all. According to everything I see, the index has come
back the way it should. I have also checked the daemons, rpc, etc. and
they all are running. Now here is the problem. I start nwrecover and it
responds that it knows where the files are located. I browse and pick the
directories I want, using add . in the /users directory. When it responds
listing the files I have chosen I type in recover. It states that it will
need additional volumes and that only one is currently online. We have an
Alphaserver 1200 with a EXOBYTE tape drive. The machine responds that this
may take a while and then starts complaining that the NSR server is busy
and will retry in 30 sec. It cycles this way for some time and never
actually starts to restore the file. Nsrwatch states that there are no
pending messages and the it cycles with the explanation "done reading".
Now this version of NSR is not the same that I have ran in the past. I
will have to retrieve my version on Monday. Considering that this is my
wife's machine I am hard pressed to resolve this problem or it's that ol'
doghouse for me. Has anyone seen this issue before?
Thanks in advance.
