DHCP mixed with fixed IP addressing

I tried this some time back and gave up getting it to work, but the
need is increasing so it is time to ask our pool of experts. IISC's
DNS server is running DUnix4.0B and we would like to have the
following limited DHCP service on the same machine, but if necessary
we can switch to a 4.0D machine.

There are a number of notebook and handheld computers that need to
travel to other networks on a regular basis. So far each system has
to have its network characteristics switched to DHCP when it goes
to a 'foreign' network and then to have its IP/gateway info manually
restored.

What we would like to do is to setup DHCP just for those MAC addresses
such that they always have the same names and IP addresses when they
are connected to the home network. While there are a number of tools
like xjoin and lots of man pages, we have not been able to get this
work.

Any help or examples of conf files would be deeply appreciated.
