All...
I am updating some internal support documentation for one of our clusters
(yes we do have such things!!), and came across the following comment:
======================
In addition the parameter compressed_dump has been set to 0 to switch off
the compressed dump facility. This has to be performed following the rebuild
of a new kernel using the following steps:-
# dbx -k /vmunix
[inconsequential warnings, ignore them]
(dbx) assign compressed_dump = 0
(dbx) patch compressed_dump = 0
(dbx) quit
========================
Now I know that new kernels have been built since this document and I'm
pretty sure that this switch off has not been done.
I have 3 questions:
1. What is compressed dump? Is this something along the lines of the -C
switch within vdump??
2. Why would I want to disable this feature? Was this a known problem in
an earlier release of DUNIX/TRUcluster software?
3. Should I disable this again??
Your help is appreciated. Many thanks.
