Original Question:
===============================
Greetings all!
I am configuring quotas on a 4.0D PK3 machine that will have hundreds of
external users on it, but none of them open a login shell. They all go
through either a browser interface or a middleware interface.
I seem to remember many years ago that quotas could email users when they
have exceeded their soft limits. Is this true? Right now, the only
possibility that I see is to write a script that would check all of the
quotas nightly and email people if they have exceeded their limits. I would
prefer a simpler way if it is possible.

Thanks to those who responded:
Jerome Berkman
Dr. Tom Blinn
Richard Bemrose
All three of them pointed out that quota wouldn't automatically send
messages to people. Since the application the users will be using has a
UNIX mail interface, I can throw email messages at them in their
application, which will let them know to clean up their data.
Special thanks goes to Richard Bemrose who has a script that can be run by
cron which will email any offending users who have exceeded their quota.
This is a great script (I have already tested it) which will do exactly what
I need (with a few site-customizations, of course).
Thanks for the help!
