SUMMARY II: from nis to c2

Here is the message i received about mutually exclusive nis and c2. Thx to

Real NIS and C2 ARE incompatible. C2 uses a non-NIS back channel to update
the passwd file with the login time. This requires the network to the master
NIS server to be up and working, so any benefit of having slave servers
is negated, creating a nice bottleneck if you have a large number of users.

And non-DEC NIS servers can not be included in the scheme because of this
special back channel.
And maybe non-DEC clients cause difficulty too.
