auto failover NICs

Hello:
     I am asked to do some research about auto NICs failover. The configuration will be:
two NICs on a alpha server connected on the same local network. One is active and the another
is not. if the active one fails, the system will automatically bring up the inactive one. The two NICs
may have the same IP(?). Is the config. possible? or we have to use TruCluster?
