Dear Tru64-Admins,
I had asked for hints when assigning Tru64 versions 4.0D and
5.0 to a DEC3000_500 and a DEC2100_C500, the one "lagging
behind" and the other "keeping in front" of the OS versions.
I received comments from
"Dr. Tom Blinn, 603-884-0646" <tpb_at_doctor.zk3.dec.com>
and alan_at_nabeth.cxo.dec.com
(and of course thank them for replying).
They both agreed in these points:
- I should not stay with version 4.0B, even though there is no
list available _what_ will really fail with years 2000 and higher.
- It is no sound approach to take binaries from a higher version
of Tru64 and expect them to work on a lower one, whether the
version difference is in the number or just the letter.
- Neither of them expected problems with either of these machines
and either of the Tru64 versions.
However, Dr. Blinn recommended to check support for the graphics
adapter with 5.0. Quote: "Most TURBOchannel graphics support
has been dropped from V5.0."
(This leaves me with the problem to get information on the
graphics cards used ...)
