My question was: why do I need to do a full backup/restore when
changing the system's date for Y2K testing.

The problem with changing the date is that the system files that have
modification/last access in the future could cause problems with some
site's specific software or scripts (such as backup scripts).

Some recommended that instead of restoring the full system, simply make
a script that "touches" the files with future dates so that dates are
set to today's dat
e. (This is what I did)

Other experiences are that databases fail when changing the date forth
and back and other is that the problem is when trying to debug a
problem because the log files have differents dates.

In general there are two opinions:

        - It's safer to backup/restore
        - It's neccesary to verify that time/date stamps on files won't
affect some site's specific programs

Other thing's to verify are: problems with PAK's lifetime, password's
expiring, account locking.

                                Thanks again
