We just took delivery on a DS20 system, but the disk configuration from the
factory seems a bit odd and not exactly what we wanted. 7 of the 8 drives
in the system are connected to the internal SCSI controller (KZPCM-DA?),
all in the internal shelf. We also bought two single-channel RAID
controllers (KZPAC-AA) that we'd like to use for hardware RAID. The 8th
drive, in an external shelf, was conneced to one of the KZPACs by our FSE.
What I think I'd like to see is:
a. 4 drives in internal shelf connected to one KZPAC
b. 4 drives in external shelf connected to the other KZPAC.
c. hardware stripe within shelves, software mirror w/LSM across shelves.
Anyone see any problems with doing this? I'm particularly interested if
using the KZPACs would cause some performance penalty vs. the other
controllers.
Thanks as always to the list--it's awesome. I will summarize.
