vrestore improperly handles files with acl lists

This is an old problem with vrestore that keeps coming back. The latest
vrestore as supplied in the version 4 jumbo patch for 4.0d
(duv40das0004-19990723) still has it. When vrestore attempts to restore a
file with an acl list it generates an error.

The initial errors look like this and appear while vrestore attempts to
read the file-list from the tape. If you use acl's as much as we do,
expect hundreds of them:

  RECORD HEADER (unknown/unexpected)
   record type : 14
   data offset : 0
   record size : 312
   flags : <none>

  RECORD HEADER (unknown/unexpected)
   record type : 14
   data offset : 0
   record size : 240
   flags : <none>

When vrestore actually reaches the and begins restoring the files the
errors look like this (hundreds more):

vrestore: error setting extended attributes 2
vrestore: error setting extended attributes 2

I originally reported this to then Digital about two years ago and
received a special patched version of vrestore, but the fixed code never
seems to have made it into the code base and broken versions of vrestore
continue to be included in updates and patches. I don't think that the
error causes a restore to fail, but I'm not sure. My two most recent
backups failed and I moved a directory with the vast majority of our ACL
listed files to another ADVFS partition and did a vdump and vrestore which
worked. It might have had something to do with the errors or it might
simply have been a couple of bad tapes that caused the original
restore failure.

If anyone knows of a patched version of vrestore for 4.0d or knows of a
better way to backup a large (12GB) ADVFS filesystem please send me
e-mail.
