Cannot see DAT tape drive

I have a TLZ09 attached to an AS 2100A. It appears when I do show config but I can't get access to it when I start Tru64.
There is a rmt0 in /dev but if i try tar -t or similar it reports that it can't find the drive.


Any ideas anyone.
