Has anyone else experienced filesystem hangs?
We are running many large 4000's and are randomly experiencing system
hang's. Symptoms are that processes using disk I/O get blocked or crash, and
other processes not using disk I/O work OK. The console locks up, but screen
I/O continues. The kernel continues to run during a hang and the machine
responds to ping and other network commands not requiring disk I/O. Only way
to recover is to halt machine and reboot.
No H/W faults have been logged and our physical disk devices all work OK.
Recently upgraded these systems to v4.0e/patchkit1. All systems run UFS on
top of LSM. Prior to this upgrade we had very good stability.
Suspect that there is a S/W bug in the UFS/filesystem code of v4.0e or with
LSM device drivers. Downloading v4.0e/patchkit2 now and intend to install.
Have heard that there may be a UFS locking bug for which a patch may be
available. Anyone installed this patch?
