All...

Some while ago I posted a query regarding restarting the rpc.cmsd. I
received numerous replies, too many to list, to the effect that:

"Use 'ps' to find out if it's running. If it is, kill it.
rpc.cmsd is normally started by inetd, so the next connection
attempt after you kill any running rpc.cmsd processes will start
a new one."

...or an alternative:

"Actually, since inetd normally runs rpc.cmsd (see /etc/inetd.conf), you
don't need to "stop and restart" it. In fact, there's nothing to stop and
restart. The next time inetd starts an instance of rpc.cmsd, it will use
the one you just installed. If you really feel the need to do something,
just refresh inetd:
        kill -HUP `cat /var/run/inetd.pid` "

Thanks everybody once again.

regards - Tony

This is a very silly question, the solution is very obvious... but not to
me.

Reading the README for patch ssrt0614u. Having installed the kit, it says
that "In order to make the security patch effective, stop and re-start
rpc.cmsd".

Exactly how do you restart the rpc.cmsd without taking the easy way out and
rebooting?

Thanks - Tony
