Fellow Managers:
I apologize in advance for the length of this two part question:
Part 1: I am sharing a TL891 between two 4100's running 4.0d pk #3. The
4100's are running firmware 5.4. Until recently, I had no problems.
However, last week I ran into to some problems attempting to install
Networker 5.5.1 (I've had both 4.4 and 5.5 running with no problems). I was
unable to see the changer from the nwadmin GUI. As I was troubleshooting
the hardware I ran into the following error message:
# file /dev/nrmt0*
/dev/nrmt0a: character special (9/36871) SCSI #2 TZ89 tape #3 (SCSI
ID #4) (SCSI LUN #0) errors = 0/46 85700_bpi
/dev/nrmt0h: character special (9/36867) SCSI #2 TZ89 tape #3 (SCSI
ID #4) (SCSI LUN #0) errors = 0/46 85700_bpi
/dev/nrmt0l: character special (9/36865) SCSI #2 TZ89 tape #3 (SCSI
ID #4) (SCSI LUN #0) errors = 0/46 85700_bpi
/dev/nrmt0m: character special (9/36869) SCSI #2 TZ89 tape #3 (SCSI
ID #4) (SCSI LUN #0) errors = 0/46 85700_bpi
Any ideas what "errors = 0/46" is referring to?
Part 2: When I setup a tape service and specify a changer (/dev/mc16 in my
case), shouldn't this device be reserved for the machine where the service
is located? I thought so, but when run the file command on Node A and Node
B here is my output (the service is running on Node B):
Node A:
# file /dev/mc16
/dev/mc16: character special (53/32768) SCSI #2 TL800 special_device
#128 (SCSI ID #0) (SCSI LUN #0
Node B:
# file /dev/mc16
/dev/mc16: character special (53/32768) SCSI #2 TL800 special_device
#128 (SCSI ID #0) (SCSI LUN #0)
Any pointers would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Bill Frederick
