Thanks to following who replied to my query and provided me with solution to my problem :

Dr. Tom Blinn, 603-884-0646 [tpb_at_doctor.zk3.dec.com]
alan_at_nabeth.cxo.dec.com
Sloane, Bob [sloane_at_ukans.edu]
Dave Tetreault [davet_at_uriacc.uri.edu]
Davis, Alan [Davis_at_Tessco.Com]
Luchini, Marco [Marco.Luchini_at_acco-uk.co.uk]
Paul Thompson [paul.thompson_at_thedacare.org]
Sean O'Connell [sean_at_stat.Duke.EDU]

All replied that it is a bug with V4.0, V4.0A and V4.0B and it has been taken in V4.0D. or a patch for the respective
version is available. I applied the patch and it is working fine. Alternatively I tried copying dump and restore files from V4.0E
and used these files on V4.0, this too worked fine.

My question and reply form Dr. Tom Blinn is as follows:

REPLY from Dr. Tom Blinn.

It's a V4.0B bug, I think it was fixed by V4.0D timeframe. You might be
able to get the updated V4.0B version of dump and restore from a patch kit,
or take the dump and restore (the problem is entirely in dump) from an old
version of the product (e.g. from V3.2G) and use that, or you might even be
able to do this by booting stand-alone from the V4.0E kit (you would be a
lot better off going to V4.0D than V4.0E, support for D will continue long
after support for E is no longer available) and using the dump and restore
on the new media to do the copy. It's also possible that using vdump and
vrestore (you need to load the AdvFS utilities but you don't need to have
AdvFS built into the kernel to use vdump and vrestore) would work.
