We're looking to put a RAID array on our AlphaServer 300 running DU-4.0F,
and migrate the array to a DS-20 within the next year. We have
standardized on LVD Ultra SCSI for all our drives, so want to use that for
the RAID array too. We want to do about 50 GB usable storage initially,
with potential to expand to twice that.
The Compaq offerings are, a bit "pricey", so we're looking for third party
alternatives. There's a lot of them out there, but it's hard to figure out
how to do a reasonable comparison, and the companies seem to come and go.
In the past we've had good luck with R-squared and BoxHill, but both of
them are gone (merged/bought-out/whatever). Our current vendor of choice
is APS. I'm looking for recommendations both of good vendors to use, and
specifically RAID products people have used with DU and been happy with.
Or, am I over-analyzing the decision? Had RAID become as much of a
commodity product as SCSI drives and it really doesn't matter much who you
buy it from since they're all pretty much the same?
