SUMMARY: Which product name for basic PAK ?

Dear admins,

my sincere thanks go to
   "Dr. Tom Blinn, 603-884-0646" <tpb_at_doctor.zk3.dec.com> ,
   Olle Eriksson <olle_at_cb.uu.se> , and
   Pat Villani <patv_at_unx.dec.com>
who almost immediately told me (unanimously) (quote from Olle):
The OSF-BASE PAK is normally delivered with the hardware
since it is the basic license. Without it, only root can login.

As I did not want to shuffle around big piles of paper and guess
which one belongs to which Alpha (I cannot tell, and the former
admins did not scribble notes on the sheets), I used the dual-boot
installation:
1) re-booted 3.2C, there did a 'lmf issue file OSF-BASE'
2) booted 4.0F, then a 'lmf register - < file ; lmf load 0 OSF-BASE'

Now I can login, the message did not yet appear - great !

Thank you all,
and have a nice weekend !

Joerg Bruehe

PS: Remaining question: If I had gone through the series of
upgrade installations, would that have kept the old licenses
so that I need not re-install them ?
