I had already pulled the plug on the disk, which forced the failover I
needed to set AUTO_ACTION to HALT -- something I will remember to do now
before I start reinstalling an OS -- but getting to the point at which I
could do so was the problem.
Ctrl-C was not working to prevent the jump to loading the OS.
Ctrl-P was the only other key sequence option suggested. I haven't been
able to verify that it works, though.
