Hello,

here is the summary of some answer of my question:

It is possible, that i have to resize the root partition for an upgrade to
4.0E. So i must remove the files from it...

The only way to upgrade is to upgrade step for step. That means i have to
upgrade in this way:

V3.0 -> V3.2 -> V3.2C -> V4.0A -> V4.0D -> V4.0E (or V4.0F, better still)

That means, that i have to order all this kits. Its nearly impossible to get
them delivered before the end of the year.

Another problem is, that by upgrading from 3.2 to 4.0a the S3 Video Card kernel
name changes, so the firmware and the kernel config needs to be manually
updated!

So I think, the best way is to install a new system on a new disk and copy the
most from the /etc directory. Then i get a new clean system. Thats quickerm,
easier and better :-)).
