/dev/kmem and ipcs problems...

Hello...

I am running Digital Unix 4.0d and am trying to discover why when running
'ipcs' (either as root or non-root), I get : /dev/kmem : No such device or
address.

I've looked through the list archives, and some of these occurences were
caused by improper perms on /dev/kmem and/or /usr/bin/ipcs (not my case).
Some were also due to systems not being rebooted after a new kernel was put
into place (also not my case).

In my instance, this suddenly stopped working, without really any related
entries in
error logs.

Does anybody have a idea of what could be happening here? Thanks...will
summarize.
