How are people doing their last backup for the year???

Hi everyone,

As Dec 31 1999 approaches, I was wondering if anyone is doing anything
special/different for there last backup for the year. I'm just after any
comments, suggestions , etc,etc.

We are running Oracle databases (V7.3.4), on 4.0D, ADVfs filesystems,
Alpha 2100 boxes. The backups are usually done in hot backup mode (ie.
The databases stay open), and tar is used for backing up the files.

For the last backup (ie 31 Dec 1999), I was probable going to shutdown all
the databases, and use vdump to take a copy of all the possible file
systems. Probably from single user mode to get / and /usr (After
remounting all the valid filesystems of course). Probably disable all non-
critical cronjobs as well. (eg. Stats collectors, etc, etc)

It's probably not the OS that's going to cause any grief, but more likely
smaller applications that somehow slipped though the Y2K checking (Funny
little perl scripts, add in applications ,cronjobs etc, etc)

I though vdump would offer the easiest way to restore (given it's also
interactive). Also if it comes to the WORST case, and we have to ring
support for something, I'm assuming they'd also be happy with vdump.

So can anyone offer suggestions , or comments , on how they plan to do
the last backup of the year - Or are people just treating it as "another
backup"

Thanks for your help,
Reg.
