Well it appears that I may be the only person in the world who didn't know the OFFICIAL answer to that one.........but I'm gonna summarize for anybody else out there who doesn't know!!!
Some people suggested tar'ing the /var/adm/lmf DIR and then restoring it under the new OS install and then issuing the lmf reset command to read in the licenses.
pjahnz_at_gfs.com suggested doing the following
strings /usr/var/adm/lmf/ldb_history
which gave me the PRODUCT NAME, AUTHORISATION NO AND THE CHECKSUM.
Everybody else suggested the following.......which is the method I am going to use!!!

If you use lmf issue you can write the entire entry, including the checksum,
to file, which is what you really want to do anyway. "issue" is supposed to
be used for cases like these or when you need to move a license from a
machine to another. So it also deletes it from then running system. I
usually, reregister it back immediately to avoid distruption. For example,
# lmf issue osf-base-file OSF-BASE
# lmf register - < osf-base-file
# lmf reset
etc.
The "Hot Fingers" award goes to Nancy Davis (nedavis_at_betafo.gsfc.nasa.gov) for the fastest response time - Nancy you managed to read, write and deliver a response to me in 2 minutes.........NICE ONE !
The "Special Mention" goes to Paul Henderson (henderson_at_unx.dec.com) for actually writing the License Manager.
Over and Out and thanks again.

ORIGINAL MESSAGE
Hey everybody.........
I have an Alphaserver 4100 4.0d, PK5......it's only used as a test server. After all the testing that has gone on prior to the New Year the system is now a little messy - a lot of crap that's no longer needed by various apps and so on. I have decided that I want to erase and re-install the OS. My problem is this........my manager has "misplaced" the lincense certificates so this is obviously a problem!!
If I look in the License manager I can get most of the info needed....but the CHECKSUM entry is not displayed....is there anyway I can get that info from the LMF or once I have re-installed the OS which files do I need to restore from a backup?
Cheers
