SUMMARY: URGENT: Shutdown RA3000/HSZ22 and now it's not seen by D U!

I got no replies - a first.

The problem was that the HSZ22 controller had lost it's configuration.
I've never had a RAID class, much less a RA3000 one. The RAID 1 sets'
configuration/info is actually out on the disks themselves. The
configuration
which ties the sets to LUNs and Host ID # is the configuration which
was lost.
Ironically, I had saved the configuration to a floppy and then shutdown the
controller before bringing down the rack for service.
The SWCC "piece-o-crap" software which runs on a damned NT PC could
not read the configuration file, which would have fixed our problem. It
returned
an error which Storage Works support said was a bug with some conrollers,
but "should" be fixed with the latest firmware which ironically AGAIN was
going
to happen today, but won't since the 7x24 system was down for 8.5 hours last
night.
The way we determined that the config had been lost was by viewing the
Virtual Disk
Properties on SWCC. It shows, under the Settings tab that the Host ID and
LUN #'s
were all "-1". They should have been Host ID=0 and LUN's of 0-2.
We (Me and Compaq HW techs on-site ), noticed this much earlier but got
scared by
all the warning windows that popped up and canceled out of the operation for
fear
of doing permanent damage to what configuration was still left.
As we corrected each Virtual Disk LUN number from -1 to 0-3, the SWCC
crashed
with a Dr. Norton and had to be restarted each time (God, I hate to be
forced to use Windows !!).
This fixed the problem. I happened to know that U00 was LUN 0, U01 = LUN 1,
etc.

The alternative to SWCC is to use a "dumb" terminal and connect directly to
the HSZ22.
The list of supported commands does not ship with the controller. I still
haven't found out
where to get the list.
Note: I was bounced around from Alpha HW support to Software Support to
Kernel Support and then
finally to Storage Works support. The support staff at the Kernel and
Storage Works was excellent, but
the overall coordination was pathetic and cost us a good 2-3 hours of
waiting for call backs.

I noticed a question out there yesterday(?) about being forced to use a
Windows (!!!!!) PC to administer
our HSZ and will be anxiously looking for the SUMMARY. I'm afraid it's going
to be just the "direct connect"
solution using the mysterious line commands. I just hope that method is not
nearly as "buggy" as SWCC.

Sorry if this is a little sketchy, but I'm trying to get the system
back up...

I used SWCC to shutdown my HSZ22 controller and I added a second
shelf.
I've got everything cabled as before, with the exception of the
second
        shelf cabled in.

Now I can see the HSZ22, but no devices on it.
ARC shows SCSI2 isp1 but no devices.

I can't reload the config from floppy - it gives me an error.
DU never sees any devices on SCSI 2.

        Any ideas ?
