more on the getting my external harddrives to work...

The history of the problem:

I have a DEC 3000 M500 with two external drives. It was working fine until
I upgraded to Tru64 5.0 and repartitioned the internal drives. Then, it
stopped being able to see the external drives.

First, I was worried because I couldn't see the external drives with 'show
dev'. It turns out that that is because they are on an add-in turbochannel
adapter. I could get info on them with "t tc1 cnfg". So, I concluded that
the console could see them, so it must be in Unix. I recompiled the kernel
with no luck. scu doesn't see them, the advfs gui doesn't, etc.

Thanks everyone who helped me to get at least to that point! Now my new
problems...

When I try to MAKEDEV the device, I get an error message saying that the
device is unknown.

So, I checked in the event log and I find the following message: "module
IPI-120T not found in tc_option table, can't configure it."

IPI-120T is the model of the TurboChannel adapter. It was made by Rococo
like 10 years ago, and they no longer support it, nor offer firmware or
drivers..

The firmware upgrade that came with Tru64 5.0 did not recognize that model
or have any updates for it.

So, I am debating about whether or not it is time to give up on my external
harddrives, or if I still stand a chance.. Anyone have ideas?

Thanks a lot,
