Sendmail and chopping attachments

People,

I am looking for options, and unfortunately I can not find it in my old
diaries, I may be hallucinating. Or I may be recollecting the old UUCP days.

The problem:

Beyond my control we have had to install virus scanners on all our in-bound
and out-bound mail, unfortunately the solution implemented is MS Exchange.
Please no flames, I had no say in this issue. As the virus scanner pukes if
it gets files too large, they have set a file limit for the entire message.

This is effectively cutting us off from our support suppliers. I am looking
for options, along the line of a multi-part MIME, or shar, something that
can be easily implemented in either sendmail or qmail.

Process flow:
If file < x size send it
if file >=x size chunk it into n pieces (as many as you want, if exchange
crumples, sorry) and send it piece by piece.

Thoughts are welcome, I think there is a sendmail/qmail list around I know
this is a little off topic, but I welcome all suggestions and will
summarize.

Kindest Regards,

Guy
