Dear friends, you are the VERY best all over the net!
I received many answers, and I succeded in using "robot" under
T64 v5.0 (1st patch applied, but I suppose it does'nt matter).
I first installed SCSI CAM (CLCMC500) which come in the Associated Product
vol 1/2 and I had no problem. (using setld)
Then I installed MRU 1.2 (to be honest I simply copied an old
/usr/opt/ROBOT120 tree on the new v5.0 system)
Then I followed the steps indicated by Bryan Cox (thanx!) which are:
1) hwmgr -view (to view all the devices connected to system)
2) dsfmgr -k (To create devices special files for all the
devices connected after system boot)
3) dsfmgr -K (To create device special files for all the
devices connected to system)
4) scu scan edt (They serve the same purpose as before)
5) scu show edt
6) hwmgr -scan scsi
7) hwmgr -show scsi.
CLI Commands:
You can use all the CLI robot command
setenv MRU_ROBOT /dev/changer/mc0
robot show robot
I've not been able to run xrobot since at startup it uses a file I
don't have: /dev/mc_mkdev (probably becouse of improper installation of MRU)
anyway, I succeded in using robot from T64 V5.0 !!
Thanx again to our beautifull & usefull mailing list,
greetings to all from Italy,
Emanuele
Here are the messages I received (in order of arrival):

You asked about the support in Tru64 UNIX V5.0 and later for tape
robots and the like which were supported by the CLC3xx kits in the
V4.0x releases.
I contacted a colleague who is working on integrating the SCSI/CAM
support for things like tape robots into the V5.0x release stream.
He provided some information that should help you out:
------- Forwarded Message
The CLC3xx kits will NOT install on Tru64 V5.0. If you must use the
CLC kit on V5.0, then you must install the CLC 5.0 kit.
The fact that it is unsupported does not mean that it will not work.
What it means is that it has not been tested very thoroughly. If the
CLC 5.0 kit is installed on Tru64 V5.0, then you do so at your own
risk of the robot working or not. For the most part, it will.
FYI, the CLC kit will no longer exist after the [unsupported] 5.0 kit.
As of V5.0A (not released yet), the changer driver is built into the
kernel without being a layered product.
------- End of Forwarded Message
What this means is that there is an "updated" CLC kit for use with
Tru64 UNIX V5.0 (I'm not personally sure where you'd get it), and
we are working on integrating the support for the devices that were
supported by the CLC kernel components in old releases directly in
the V5.0x product, with the first release due as part of V5.0A (and
that should be out before summer in the northern hemisphere, but I
won't try to give you a firm date; it is in field test already and
we are working to get it out soon).
So, if I were you, I'd wait for V5.0A before trying to upgrade. If
you are concerned about support for V4.0D, you can either update to
V4.0F (or to V4.0G, but that will come out after V5.0A if things go
as we expect), and then go to V5.0A (or a later V5.x based release)
when you are ready. In any case, V4.0D is fully supported and will
be supported at least into the year 2001.

"Cox, Bryan" <Bryan.Cox_at_compaq.com>
The current version of MRU is V1.4. This version is being tested with Tru64
V5.0 and 5.0A. We have found that the TRU64 UNIX folks changes some thing
in the with the SCSI cam driver with 5.0. These changes require configuring
the robot differently that it was configured in the past.
We are in the process of putting together an article for the customer
support center which defines the new process. It is not ready yet, but see
below...
I would not recommend any prior version of SCSI cam be used with TRU64 V5.
Use the one that come with V5.
The following is the instructions in the rough form. I have given then to
another customer who tried it on V5.0 and it worked just fine for him.
IT FOLLOWS THE COMMAND LIST I SHOW YOU BEFORE (lele)

Thats true that CLCMC500 kits which comes with Tru64 V5.0 asso. prod. CD-2
is not supported, but we have tested MRU with Tru64 V5.0 and we found it is
working quite fine.
But you have to adopt different procedure to configure media changer on
Tru64 Unix 5.0.
Also in Tru64 V5.0A, media changer driver will be part of Base OS and I
think that will be supported. we also found that robot commands will work on
Tru64 V5.0A.

I've tried CLCMC500 with MRU 1.4 on True64 5.0 and I've not yet got any problem.
