Dear managers:
We just received 2 Alphastation XP900 from Compaq. We had to have a
Compaq field engineer install Tru-64 Unix 5.0 from his CD on our Alphastations
because the systems came with VMS even though we did received licenses for
Tru-64 Unix. We, also, want to use xdm instead of cde because of
the color table issues.
4 Questions:
1.
Anyways, we need to bring up the XP900's in 8-bit color and 1024x768
mode. Also, when I tried to run some of our image processing programs
that were compiled on an Alphastation running 4.0x we got this error:
1893:./general: /sbin/loader: Fatal Error: cannot map libfor.so
What libraries should we install? I don't think it is necessary to
install the FORTRAN compiler but just the .so files.
2.
Also, when we tried to compile it gave us an error message about
the include <stdio.h> and <string.h> and this simple program that I
tried to make on 5.0 didn't work until I removed the include entries
from the program. The cc -old no longer is supported and I don't have a
manual for this C compiler. Does anybody know what I can do to
alleviate this since I don't want to have to edit every program.c file?
3. Also, when I put "xdm" instead of "cde" in the rc.config file I have
the twm window manager come up in 5.0. I looked and noticed that the
dxsession window manager is not on the system even though some other dx*
executables are located in the /usr/bin/X11. Am I missing a SAVE set
from the CD-Rom?
4. Will Tru-64 Unix 4.0x run on the Alphastation XP900 and if we get one
the XP1000? These machines were announced as new products last July.
Sincerely yours!!
