Hi Tru 64 administrators!

Synopsis:

Can 8character "munged" (such as myfil~_1.zip) file names created by old
msdos programs be re-mapped to their original long file names with any unix
based utility?

The answer from all concerned on my question was a resounding NO.

Once the msdos files leave the original operating system all ability to
reconstruct the original file names will be lost.

Recommendations:

Tell my customers to upgrade or provide them with upgrades
Use my own naming convention

I believe I will try a little combination of writing a perl script to
search the incoming directories and rename the files combined with
approaching these customers "one more time" with some urging to get rid of
the outmoded software.

Thanks go to:

Dr. Tom Blinn
John Francini
Gary George

For their prompt and courteous advice!

Regards,

Jim
