SUMMARY: Screensaver passwd v login passwd

Thanks to all who replied, and especially Dr Blinn who managed to hit the
nail squarely on the thumb at the first attempt.

The screensaver will unlock with either the user's own password, or the root
password.

In this case, the user had set up the machine with the root passwd and their
own user passwd set to the same string. They then changed their own passwd
and entered the old passwd (still the root passwd) by mistake and they were
alarmed when the screensaver unlocked.

The system behaved entirely correctly.
