I asked:

Does anybody know if there are any third-party SCSI controllers
available for the Compaq XP1000 workstation (i.e. equivalent to
KZPBA-CA or KZPCA-AA). The Compaq controllers a pretty expensive.

I received a number of good suggestions:

>From Arno Hahma <arno_at_azido.pp.utu.fi>:
Asus SC-200 should work. It is a PCI controller,
Fast-SCSI-2 narrow, one internal, one 50-pin sub-D
external connector.

>From Daniel Curry <dcurry_at_dollar.com>:
I have a little ALpha 400 with a generic QLogic FastPCI card in it.
it's bios states it is a 1040 model. I hope this helps. This part
should help: I only paid $60US for it at a local PC shop.

>From Don <rye_at_jwfc.jfcom.mil> and
Peter Mittermayer <p.mittermayer_at_astro.univie.ac.at>:
 Try intraserver.com, They are supported.
http://www.intraserver.com/products/alphahome.html

And from Jim Fitzmaurice <jpfitz_at_fnal.gov> who recommended his own
Compaq Equipment rep.

Many thanks to all.
