SCSI peripherals upgrade on DEC 3000/500

Dear admin colleagues !

We operate a DEC 3000_500 and a 2100_C500 MP,
both running Tru64 4.0D + 4.0F (each dual-boot)
with the intent to upgrade to 4.0D + 5.0 (still dual-boot)
or 4.0D + 4.0F + 5.0 (triple-boot).

My purpose is to increase disk capacity on the 3000/500
and tape backup capacity on either of the two.
Due to several changes of duties and to moves, I lack an
owner's manual for the 3000/500 - so I ask here
(all device/address info taken from "sys_check" output):

a) I assume the SCSI devices to be single-ended, narrow.
   Should I check that ? If yes - how can I ?
(All I found on the SCSI host adapters is the "boot record" info
         tc0 at nexus / scc0 at tc0 slot 7 /
         tcds0 at tc0 slot 6 / scsi0 at tcds0 slot 0
   and scsi1 at tcds0 slot 1
but I cannot take type codes from that.)

b) The 3000/500 has 2* RZ25, 1* RZ26 + 1* RRD42 internal.
It has an external SCSI cabinet "BA35X-VA"
   which contains 6* RZ28 + 1* TLZ06.

In the external cabinet, can I replace two RZ28 (2 GB ? each)
by one or two larger disk(s) (4 .. 8 GB would be o.k.)
and use these two RZ28 to replace the two internal RZ25
   (400 MB ? each) ?

   Could I then use rz1, rz2 and rz3 (RZ28, RZ28, and RZ26)
   for a triple-boot installation ?

c) I do have an external TZ87 drive (sticker: "SCSI SE") which
with an "Alpha Station 200 4/166" originally intended for
   Alpha/NT, now running Alpha/Linux (SuSE 6.1).
Is a TZ87 the same as a DLT III drive, or does it just
   look similar ?

d) It seems that the 3000/500 has only a single external SCSI
connection which leads to the external cabinet.
This cabinet contains seven devices, so all SCSI ids are in use.

If I take out one device (any restrictions ?),
could I then insert the TZ87 in the SCSI bus between system
   and expansion cabinet ?

e) Would it be easier to connect an external tape to the 2100 ?
   (condensed excerpt from messages:
      scsi0 at psiop0 slot 0
      rz0/rz1/rz2/rz3 at scsi0 target 0/1/2/3 ... RZ29B
      tz5 at scsi0 target 5 lun 0 TLZ07
      rz6 at scsi0 target 6 lun 0 RRD45
   and
      scsi1 at psiop1 slot 0
      rz8 at scsi1 target 0 lun 0 RZ28D (C) DEC 0008) (Wide16)
      rz9/rz10/rz11 at scsi1 target 1/2/3 ... RZ29B
   All these devices are internal.
Does that really mean it has w _wide_ rz8 and all others
   _narrow_ ?)

f) Is there any other backup device you would recommend,
especially one that fits internally (= 3.5 " size) ?
(Remember the TLZ06 and TLZ07 are already present,
but I am not too confident regarding their reliability
and would like increased tape capacity.)

Thank you for hints and pointers,
and I will summarize !
