Problem with a vdump

Can anyone assist,

I am running an alpha 1200 5/533 on TRU 64 ( 4.0F, fully patched )

I am utilising a site wide ( KSH ) backup procedure, which among other
things, performs a simple loop and invokes vdump for each file system within
the loop
it appears that randomly and on this system only, ( out of 20 or more which
utilise the procedure ), I am experiencing the following message, which
obviously terminates the dump for that file system. The file system is in
excess of 11 Gb used and utilises a TLZ10 DAT drive. The message I get on
this file system is :

/var/backup/scripts/backup.ksh[174]: 19511 Floating exception(coredump)

I must reiterate, the backup procedure is a site standard and is copied
verbatim to each alpha system. Any Ideas?
