[Summary]

I was running - GNU Emacs 19.28.1 under DU4.0E

I received a lot of good suggestions. Larye dug into the help files and
sent me some good information. Mary's suggestion was helpful. And Steve
told me about VM another emacs mail package.

I decided to track down VM at http://www.emacs.org ,which is there, but
when I got there I decided to upgrade my emacs instead. I am now running
GNU Emacs 20.5.2. It makes really easy for my environment. I think this
version of emacs makes available options that will solve my problem. I am
pretty sure, but not positive though. Anyways I am looking into it.

Below you will find a quote which is probably true for GNU Emacs 19.28.1.

Well, unfortunately there seem to be two competing philosphies about UNIX user
mail agents: those that believe they should suck everything out of your inbox
(Emacs and the old DECwindows Mail app which may still be in CDE) and tools that
leave your inbox alone until you explicitly delete stuff from it (nearly all
others).
The only hope is that, since Emacs is so customizable and changeable, there
might be a setting that will tell it to leave your inbox alone.

I think your right John, and I'll make 20.5.2 do what I want, I'm sure of it.

[Q]
Hi,
I like the emacs editor. I use it a lot. I would like to use it to
send and read mail but when I use it to read my mail it erases the inbox
as regards my other mail clients. I think that behavior is rude.
[Q] How can I prevent emacs from erasing the other mail inbox. Or how
can I restore the other mail inbox after it does?

Thank you.
