All were helpful but it was Andrija who steered me in the right direction. I
have been given the job of finding out why we are getting an average of 30
ASE messages daily. The system was originally put together by Compaq nearly
a year ago and there were no problems.
The problems actually started after the lan addresses and hardware were
altered during a network upgrade over 5 months ago. The Compaq guy had been
working on solving the problem but he is currently on extended leave. It has
been escalated internally in Compaq and we have applied some 15 patches all
to no avail. Since posting to the list I have part of the problem solved.
What Andrija said was in part;
"What I could not see in your routing tables are static routes that should
be
added according to ASE configuration manual (add -host member member, for
each
member on each member). These routes can help very much."
Seems that the routes were lost from the /etc/routes file. I found the
manual Andrija indicated and checked against our config. Sure enough, they
were not there. Since putting the routes in and restarting the network the
system has become much more stable. At least it can now communicate with
other machines on the lan.
The downside is that the ASE error messages continue. I will list another
yell for help with the list and put more succinct detail in it.
Thanks
