I've recently converted most of the file systems on an XP-1000 running
Tru64 UNIX v5.0 (with patch kit) to AdvFS. I've been running defragcron each
night on the file systems, apparently without problems.
A user brought to my attention that one file created by a long-running
batch job appeared to be corrupted, despite the fact that other files
created before and after this one were fine. I took a look at the file
creation time and compared it with my defragcron log and found that it was
created during the 3 minutes that that file system was being defragmented.
Is file corruption during defragmentation a known problem? Has anyone else
experienced this? I've gone back through the archives and found one other
possible instance of corruption as a result of defragcron. Any advice as to
whether I should be running defragcron regularly?
Thanks for any assistance.
