tar to DAT influences NFS

Hi,

Why do I always get the "NFS server tycho not responding" message on
machines, where I have some of tycho's file systems nfs-mounted, when
using the DAT connected to tycho?

The DAT is an HP C1537A connected to a seperate SCSI controller
than the disks. Version of Tru64 Unix is 4.0d.
