Thanks to Lars Sundqvist from
Compaq (Lars.Sundqvist_at_compaq.com).
This problem is known and is solved by
installing patch kit 1. In my case
I wasn't able to boot, therefore
he gave the following recipe that worked.

1. Halt and reboot the machine to single-user mode
boot -flag s

2. fsck

fsck -p /
mount -u /
fsck -p /usr
mount /usr

3. Save the original copy of dsfmgr, create a zero-length file with the same
name, set permissions for the zero-lenght dsfmgr.

mv /sbin/dsfmgr /sbin/dsfmgr.orig
touch /sbin/dsfmgr
chmod +x /sbin/dsfmgr

4. Type CTRL-D to bring the system to multi-user mode.

5. Login as root.

Using hwmgr, remove the non-registered hardware components.
Ignore eventuall error messages.

/sbin/hwmgr -refresh component
You will see output like this;
DELETE_COMMIT: Cannot fetch name.
hwmgr: Refresh component database operation was successful

6. Move the original dsfmgr back to it's original state.

mv /sbin/dsfmgr.orig /sbin/dsfmgr
