Dear list,
here is the summary of all responses to my question (please see original
posting
below):
There seems no way to reject SMTP relaying with sendmail versions below
8.8.8.
Therefore, the only solution seems to be updating sendmail to a recent
version.
I installed sendmail 8.10.0 an its up and running fine.
Thanks to all contributors (too many to mention here...)
(especially for telling me that it´s not only me who can not
read that funny cf - file :)

original Posting:
Dear all,
Since I am not an absolute Unix guru, I might have to apologize for the
simplictiy of this question....
We have a DEC Alpha Server running an old sendmail version (5.6.6). I need
to deny smtp relaying for all messages except those who go to local users on
this machine.
my Questions:
a) do I have to upgrade to the lastest sendmail version to do this ? (I know
it would be good to do so anyway, but the box goes out of operation soon, so
I dont want to twiggle around too much....
b) if it is possible with the old version, can anybody tell me how to do it
?
Thank you very much in advance.
regards,
Dieter
(by the way: can someone tell me how to learn reading that funny
sendmail.cf ? Is it so complicated, or am I so stupid? :)
