System : 1200 5/533; 640 MB; 4.0D no patchkits installed
Problem: System crashes during defrag of /usr (usr_domain#usr).
While investigating I was able to get the system to crash while
performing the following:
# ls -R /usr
# verify usr_domain ! done from single user mode
There are no advfs errors in either the messages file or the crash-
data file. The only error that occurs is:
Mar 29 10:41:36 LIME vmunix: panic (cpu 0): System
Uncorrectable Machine Check
Another note : this file system does not get backed up (this is my
first week here at the new job, so no comments about this please).
In looking through the archives for similar problems I came across
the following suggestions:
1) Run verify on the domain (this causes a system crash when I try
it)
2) There may be a highly fragmented file causing problems (the file
system has been defragmented every night for the last year, so
this is probably not the case)
3) Install the latest patch kit
4) Recreate the domain
Before trying either 3 or 4 I thought I'd solicit the group for any
further insight or suggestions.
