When a new controller is added, a kernel rebuild is needed.
Here are the steps I performed :
-I booted from the generic kernel (genvmunix)
-used sizer -n to create a config file in /tmp
-copied the lines for the new controller into the
existing system configuration file.
-used doconfig to rebuild the kernel
-rebooted
Thanks to all who responded
