I asked whether the new recommendations for choosing a chunk size for a
stripeset or RAIDset that were included in the documentation additions or
corrections section of the release notes for the new version of the controller
software for the HSZ70, HSOF 7.7, would also apply to the HSZ50.
Yes
alan at nabeth.cxo.dec.com replied that according to the technical source of
the new recommendations, they apply to striping and RAID in general and not to
a particular controller.
Therefore, I will consider using the new recommended chunk sizes of 157, 239,
or 317 blocks in order to increase the request rate for 8 KB transfers and the
recommended chunk size of 17 for sequential writes on all of our controllers.
(The original documentation had recommended that the default chunk size of 256
blocks be used.)
