I received one more reply through Dr. Thomas Blinn (who else...):
They don't say if they are using the COM1 or COM2 port.
The SRM doesn't allow you to set the COM*_baud
environment variables any higher than 57600. However, we
ignore the COM2* EVs and therefore the user can set the
speed up to 115200 for the COM2 port.
The COM1 port becomes a little tricky if they
are using a serial console or the system has a
Remote Console Management module like the RCM or
SCM. In these cases it's best to not set the
COM1 baud rate to anything higher than the SRM
supports. If they are using a graphics console
and the system doesn't provide a remote
management capabilities than they should be able
to go to 115200 with out any adverse affects.
So, the final answer is: you can indeed override the SRM console
setting 57600 baud up to 115200, which I already determined
experimentally as an acceptable setting. BTW, I am using the COM2 -port
and there is no remote console management installed on the system.
