Hello.
I've got a couple of 3000 workstations, networked via hard disk
drive directories cross-mounted through their internet ports. The
machines had been switched off a while (over Y2K) due to power
problems in the building. While they were off, their IP addresses
were reallocated by the powers that be here at Penn State. Later,
naturally, the machines could not seem to find one another, but
when I tried to update the hosts file on one of them, I could not
get into super-user mode. I rebooted in console mode, and used
ed to change these files. I was only able to change one line, but
could not save the changes, or change any additional lines of the
file. The second machine gives a repeated "metronome error"
on the login screen.
Anybody seen these symptoms before?
Many thanks.
