Can you Load Balance two EMC Symmetrix SCSI connections

Hi,

We have (3) alpha servers which currently run under Digital Unix
4.0E.

We also have the EMC Symmetrix storage array. This array was
provisioned, by EMC, for two redundant load balanced SCSI connections,
two for each alpha server by EMC. The EMC people like to provision
two lines for redunancy, failover, and load balancing capabilities and
we said we would be glad to pay for those features.

Later we were told, but can't remember by whom, that Digital Unix 4.0E
did not support Load Balancing for the EMC storage array. They said
don't worry, support for this capability will soon be provided for when
Tru64 Unix 5.0 is released. So we capped off (3) of our (6) Scsi EMC
Symmetrix lines and then left them to lie unconnected under our raised
platform floor. We could have plugged them into the alpha servers but
optioned for under floor storage instead.

Now we are deciding what to do with these unused EMC connections. I
mean they were a justification item at procurement and procurement
is a six to nine month cycle here, we would prefer to use them for
their original "Load Balancing" purpose but could use them to connect
our EMC Symmetrix (simm) to other servers instead.

[Q] Does anyone know if a "Load Balancing"/"Failover" feature is
available in Tru64 Unix 5.0 such that we can make use of our dual
connections to the simm? I would upgrade for this capability.
Is it available now under DU 4.0E?

Sincerely
Kevin Criss
