My original question is at the end,
and the answer is no, I guess it's not possible.
Not without some tricks anyway.

Any additions still welcome.

Thanks everybody.

Here are the responses I received;

I wouldn't do it. I have field tested TruCluster 5.0 and 5.0A.

It is very sensitive to the interfaces and there are so many other issues
you wouldn't know what was causing the problems.

I have done it, but we had memory channel interfaces at installation time.
After that,
I simply changed all references to mc-xxx in /etc/rc.config and in
/etc/sysconfigtab to tu0.
The cluster worked without MC and the communication was done via ethernet.

Hope that helps.

Because we will be using PC164s and that firmware has not been tested nor
is supported with memory channel cards, I have a vendor that is calling
DEC today or tomorrow to look at the ethernet option instead.

Although we won't be able to share resources with the ethernet option, at
least we can have auto failover from one CPU to the other with the
TruCluster Software.

I will email the results.

in de definitieve versie is dit niet mogelijk. Het kon wel tot BL20 (base
level 20) of 19.
Volgend jaar komen er naar alle waarschijnlijkheid alternatieve cluster
interconnects, indien je meer details wilt kun je misschien naar het UNIX
Symposium gaan in Nashua (begin mei).
De informatie is voorlopig "confidential" voor Compaq en Compaq partners.
