I/O errors writing to DLT7000 after writing around 2GB of data

Tru64 v4.0F
Legato NetWorker 5.5.1-001
Legato SmartMedia 1.2-003

We have 4 AlphaServers in a SAN each having access to a or more DLT7000s.
All machines except one backup fine. The 4th one writes approx. 2GB of data
(different each time) to a volume, then gets an I/O error at which point
NetWorker marks the volume full and starts using another tape and so on.
This happens on 3 different drives which behave ok when used on different
machines.

The error is 'writing: I/O error at file <n> record <n>'

The same machine has a previous incarnation of NetWorker which backs up
fine. Also, vdump to the problematic drives gives a similar error.

The particular drives work ok when used by the other machines in the SAN,
which leads us to believe this is an OS config issue.

Also, what bothers me is that, Compaq TZ89 and DLT7000 drives are the same
drive, however, NetWorker uses a different block size. If you configure a
'tz89', the block size used on a scratch tape would be 256k, whereas,
'dlt7000' uses 128k. The particular machine used tz89s before the SAN.

Has anyone seen anything similar or perhaps has info about configuring
DLT7000 drives (I know generally, you don't have to do anything). Should
there be an entry in the ddr.dbase ?

TIA

Richard
