Hi,

My initial problem was that my system continually crashed with a kernel
memory fault after an uptime of around 2 hours.

Thanks to:

    Thomas Leitner <tom_at_radar.tu-graz.ac.at>
    Dr. Tom Blinn, 603-884-0646 <tpb_at_doctor.zk3.dec.com>
    Paul Thompson <paul.thompson_at_thedacare.org>

Tom and Alan were able to trace the problem source, it turned out to be a
problem in the gpc subsystem which actually seems to contain a bug, at least
when running on systems based on EB164.
To be more precise, the pcxal driver probes the input hardware and tru64
crashes as there is no mouse connected to the sytem. The same happens when
trying to unplug either the keyboard or mouse at runtime.

The solution was to find a mouse accepted by SRM and leaving it untouched
during runtime.

Thomas noted that the latest patchkit may fix that bug, he also gave me
detailed instructions on how to patch tru64 in multi-user mode. I
successfully installed the patchkit and although it did not fix that
particular problem some other very important fixes were included.

Thanks again to all!

cheers,

(I am really sorry for the huge delay, I was out of town until today which
kept me from posting this earlier.)
