Dear Managers,

I have at the mean time of buying a new system. I am planning to buy ;
- 2 ES-40 (2 CPU,4 GB RAM)
- 400 GB shared storage (RA800)
- Fabric switch topology and fiber medium between storage and servers

I am asking ;
1- there were 2 cluster types ;
Available server (Just serves as a failover system, Increases High Avail but
no performance increase)
Production Server ( needs memory channel and Oracle Parralel server
What is the newest cluster version ( I say it as X in the following)

Does TruCluster V 5.0X -again- has these both server types ?

2- Compaq said me that, ES-40 systems can not boot from shared storage so
they need internal disks to be used as root( and boot) disk. They offered me
SW mirrored 2 disks. This is again the same in the V5.0X?. If so can SW
mirrored disk failover if one of them crashes?

3- Can both servers see the same disk region ? Can they access,modify that
region ? I am planning to use a DAT tape drive in one of the servers. Can I
backup any disk region to that drive?

4- If there is still Available server edition , do you recommend it to me ?
What problems can arise ? Is managament really difficult ?
5- What about prices ? (Tru Cluster ASE was $12000 for 2 systems)

Any other information to buy whether Available server or standolone Tru64
Unix system will be greatly appreciated ..

TIA..
