Thanks to both Kevin Oberman and Scooter Morris who both advised that they
had it running on several versions of Tru64.
Scooter even offered to test my printcap file in case that was the problem.
In the end I cleaned out my build directories and restarted from the
beginning. I included a couple of statements describing the paths to
libraries and to the printcap file in the ./configure statement. Then I
tested with the command /usr/local/sbin/lpd -F -D1 which is supposed to run
the lpd daemon in debug mode and output to the screen. The [_at_#$] thing still
crashed in test mode with a memory fault.
I had noticed that it didn't crash if I just used the -F parameter (output
to the screen)
SO...
I then thought, why not just try and see if it runs when not in debug mode
(the testing part of the install) and wonder of wonders. IT WORKED...
Thanks again to Kevin and Scooter for their help.
I am still curious as to why it crashes in debug mode (anybody??)
but at least I have something to work with.
Thanks
